7 Most Idiotic Things Fanboys Want From Upcoming Movies

6. A Movie That Is Slave To The Canon - Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming behemoth that is Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, knows all about being a "slave to the canon." His 2009 adaptation of the seminal graphic novel Watchmen suffered on account of its sheer faithfulness; though Snyder should be admired for trying to stay as true to its source as possible, the film had no room to breathe. It was smothered by its own determination to be true to the comic. And now DC fanboys are angry at Snyder for rendering a Batman V Superman movie that actually dares to be different? What's the point in a film that stays too close to the established DC canon, though? Audiences have seen these stories faithfully rendered a countless number of times - surely a new approach is far more exciting than old hat? Audiences have continued to express their annoyance in Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg being chosen to play Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor over actors like Josh Brolin and Bryan Cranston. Whilst those actors would have been good, they're conventional picks. What's wrong with shaking things up a bit? Even if Affleck and Eisenberg ultimately turn out to be ill-judged choices, isn't it better to at least have attempted something in a different vein? Zack Snyder, responding to the outcries from fanboys, explains it best:
"There are two ways to think about it. We know the material. Unfortunately, the fans don€™t know the material. So, we€™re casting according to what€™s happening in the script. And we€™re hoping that leads to enough originality that you get something fresh and exciting. I understand the canon. I€™m not crazy. I know what these characters need from a mythological standpoint."
In this regard, folk need to adjust their expectations and relax. Watchmen was certified proof that being too faithful can result in a flat film - who wants that to happen again?
