7 Most Idiotic Things Fanboys Want From Upcoming Movies
4. A Whole Ton Of Spider-Man - Captain America: Civil War
Here's a frenzied fanboy request that seems like a lot of fun in theory, but has all the makings of an inclusion that could go very wrong - and doesn't make much sense. Which is to say that everyone seem to be extremely excited about the notion of Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man turning up in Captain America: Civil War. When the teaser trailer was unveiled the other week, the fanbase seemed to spend most of its time trying to spot the character, rather than on everything else in it, wondering whether Marvel had sneakily hidden him within. All well and good, but it's important to remember that this is a Captain American movie with enough on its plate already: the notion of Spider-Man making a brief appearance is an inherently intriguing one, yes, but really Marvel have jumped the gun in choosing to include the character. Factoring Spider-Man into the plot when he's yet to be established in the MCU in any way, shape or form kind of feels like a work of ill-judged fan-fiction in itself. Caught up with the promise of their being an appearance from Peter Parker, fanboys seem to have forgotten that it wasn't great idea to include him to begin with; having to find a means to explain his powers and have the character pondering his alliances means less screen time for the main story - not to mention a potentially overstuffed narrative. Will a mere "cameo" do now, though? People seem to be expecting and hoping for far more. So it's Spider-Man that the fanboys are clambering for in their masses, seemingly oblivious to the fact that he'd have been far better served in a solo film... in a few years' time.
