7 Most Idiotic Things Fanboys Want From Upcoming Movies
2. A Whole Host Of Cameos & Connections To Harry Potter - Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
It must have been tempting for J.K. Rowling, who was penning her first screenplay with Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, to make as many allusions to her Harry Potter series during the writing process. After all, Fantastic Beasts is a spin-off from the books, right? Fans of Harry Potter are going to go see Fantastic Beasts on the promise that it delivers countless references and allusions. Whether it does or not, though... well, that's not really the point. Hopefully Rowling has found a way to ensure that Fantastic Beasts feels like its own thing, because what are the odds that the two stories - that of Harry's and new main character Newt Scamander - are closely linked? None, really. That hasn't stopped the Harry Potter fans from tearing up the internet with hopes of cameos appearances. The worst thing that J.K. Rowling could have done with this movie, however, is pander to the fanboys in their feverish desire to see the film packed out with references and characters (or their ancestors) from the main series. Even if people ardently think that's want they want, chances are it will feel indulgent and silly - especially since Fantastic Beasts is set in 1920s New York. You know, before most of the characters were born. Fans are likely awaiting that inevitable scene in which Newt bumps into "Young Dumbledore" on the streets of Manhattan, knocks his books out of his hand, and utters something hilarious like: "Well, that clumsy chap will never amount to anything." Get it? Because we know that Dumbledore will! In theory, though, that's precisely the sort of scene that fans should be dreading - here's hoping Rowling has avoided such nonsense.
