7 Most Overrated Comic Book Movie Performances
6. Margot Kidder - Lois Lane - The Superman Quadrilogy
Nobody is all that fond of Amy Adams' portrayal of Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's recent Superman films, mainly because she's a boring, personality-less exposition machine and is completely beneath the actress who plays her. That being the case, it was inevitable that fans would look back at previous Lois Lanes and remember all the good times when the character was, you know, good.
It's not surprising that Margot Kidder's name comes up a lot, given that she played Lane in the original Superman movies - I, II, III and IV - and is therefore considered to be a great embodiment of Clark Kent's famous love interest.
But have you gone back recently and witnessed this character in action? She's near on insufferable. Seriously: whilst Amy Adams is as dull as a concrete post in the role, Kidder is irritating as hell - there's a weird "little girl" side to her performance that is plainly absent in the comics, and it just doesn't come over well on 21st century Earth. As an actress, she isn't bad, but the way she plays Lane simply pales in comparison to the way Teri Hatcher did in the '90s TV series.
Clearly the countless folk who cite Margot Kidder as the best incarnation of Lois Lane should revisit her turn just to make sure they've got it right. She's serviceable, but the best on-screen version of this character? Uh-uh. Is this, after all, the Lois Lane you'd want to catch, mid-air? God knows why Superman didn't drop her.
