7 Mouth-Watering Films Quentin Tarantino Almost Made

5. John Brown Biopic

Five years before Django Unchained was made, Tarantino flirted with the idea of a slavery movie. On the Charlie Rose Show in 2009, he mentioned the possibility of making a biopic on abolitionist, John Brown. "There is one biopic that I could be interested in,€ said the writer-director. €œIt would probably be one of the last movies I ever make. My favourite hero in American history is John Brown. He's my favourite American who ever lived. He basically single-handedly started the road to end slavery and the fact that he killed people to do it.€ It was mooted around numerous trades that Tarantino saw Christoph Waltz playing the role of Brown, with the director blown away by his chilling portrayal of Col. Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, which won the Austrian born actor his first Oscar. Since then, talks about making this film have seemingly stalled, or maybe put aside for the time being.
You would think Tarantino wouldʼve satisfied his creative impulses regarding the topics of Westerns and slavery with Django Unchained. However, he spoke with BAFTA during a Q&A where he reiterated his desire to make another Western, "I'd like to do a couple more, dealing with the same issue: but different story, different characters. I could think of doing another western, actually." Those comments were made before he announced The Hateful Eight was to be his next movie, so maybe after that film Tarantino may have cured his itch.

Martin Scorsese fanboy; Can prove in 140-characters why Michael Bay is a hack, and I enjoy a bit of Gridiron at the weekends.
