7 Movie Plot Holes No One Ever Talks About
4. Why Didn't The Witch Tell Dorothy About The Shoes Earlier? Wizard Of Oz (1939)
In the movie version of the story, starring Judy Garland, the good witch of the north tells Dorothy to take the ruby slippers, and head to the emerald city. A lot happens, and in the end, Dorothy finds out that didn’t work too well for her.
The witch shows up again and says “Oh, you coulda gone home whenever you wanted, your shoes could have sent you home, LOL. #sorrynotsorry.”
Why didn’t she tell Dorothy about the shoes from the get-go? What, was she hoping Dorothy would be able to off her colleague to the west? It made her look like either the biggest !*$%, or the dumbest witch ever.
Thing is, in the greatest series of books ever, The Wizard of Oz, it was two separate witches that told Dorothy what to do. The unnamed witch of the north sent Dorothy to the emerald city, while Glinda, the witch of the south, told her that her silver shoes had the power to send her home. Splitting the characters makes the first witch’s ignorance of the power of the shoes understandable.
