The Role: In early 2013, rumours began to swirl that Marvel were considering both Jim Carrey and Sandler to play the part of Rocket Raccoon, the hilariously foul-mouthed (not to mention bada**) anthropomorphic raccoon who ultimately stole the show in James Gunn's stellar sci-fi space opera, or even possibly monosyllabic tree monster Groot. Nobody involved has ever really talked about how far negotiations may have gotten, and in the end, Rocket went to Bradley Cooper, while Groot was given to Vin Diesel, and all was right with the world. Why He Would've Ruined The Movie: Sandler's voice and general mannerisms wouldn't have suited either of these characters one bit, because it's pretty much impossible to think of Sandler as Rocket without hearing one of the actor's irritating, lispy, shouty voices from something like Billy Madison or Little Nicky. At least Groot would've been less demanding for him given the character's general lack of wordage, but even so, given how exemplary Cooper and Diesel were in their respective parts, Sandler would've been an easy downgrade. Plus, the idea of him ending up as a component of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is just too weird and unsettling to want to entertain.
