5. Metropolis
What It Is: One of the greatest and most important science fiction films of all time, and number one on our list of
movies that should never be remade. It is set in a dystopian society which has all the upper-class living in the enormous city that encompasses Metropolis. Living below them, underground, are all the workers who provide power to the city. The son of one of these rich elite wanders underground and sees the horrors there, while his father sends men to find him.
How It May Have Predicted the Future: Much concern is made of the growing barriers between classes, not just in developed countries, but all through the world. The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. It doesn't take much imagination to see an identical situation happening with us that happened in Metropolis.
