4. Star Trek: First Contact
What It Is: The eighth Star Trek film, and commonly regarded as being the best of the ones with the Next Generation cast. It features a story where the Borg go back in time to the day before humans make the first faster-than-light space flight, which in turn would lead to humanity's first contact with alien life (specifically, the Vulcans). The Enterprise is able to follow and destroy the Borg ship, but not before they had done enough damage to delay the launch of the ship.
How It May Have Predicted the Future: I'm not defending the idea that Vulcans exist... rather, the idea of a civilian being the first to make a warp flight is what I find intriguing. For instance, in 2004 the X Prize Foundation offered a whopping ten million dollar prize to whoever could build and launch a reusable craft into space, twice in two weeks. A team actually succeeded and claimed the prize. So while inventing warp drive may not be attainable for a civilian group, spaceflight certainly is.
