7 Movies That May Just Have Predicted The Future of Humanity

2. Gattaca

GattacaWhat It Is: A 1997 science fiction film about a future society governed by the laws of liberal eugenics. In other words, there is a giant registry of people determining how fit you are, and based on your ranking (valid or in-valid) it determines what jobs you're qualified to have, and what standing in society you have. It follows the life of Vincent Freeman, who is nearsighted, has a heart defect, a high probability of developing mental disorders, and a projected life expectancy of 30 or so years. Through some serious effort, he's able to take on the identity of Jerome Morrow, an athlete who was paralyzed in a car accident. Using this identity, he hopes to become an astronaut and be on the first manned flight to Titan, Saturn's moon. How It May Have Predicted the Future: There's actually a phrase for it, the "Gattaca Argument", which states that due to constant advances in medicine and technology, the rich will be able to afford to effectively buy a stronger and healthier body for themselves and their children. This would in turn make them more qualified for many jobs, and further widen the gap between the upper and lower classes. (this movie could perhaps work as a prequel to Metropolis, come to think of it)
