Perhaps the biggest clue to Brick's time-travelling adventures has been sitting under viewers' noses since the very beginning of the first Anchorman movie. And it's not that he enjoys a pair of slacks. In his introduction to audiences, Brick states that "years later, a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q. of 48 and am what some people call mentally retarded." Whilst "years later" no doubt stuck in your mind as a very strange turn of phrase and a good summing up of the strange thought processes of the man they call Brick, his awareness of what is yet to come might not have seemed so relevant at the time. Brick is pretty much saying straight up that he is a time traveller and he is well aware of it, perhaps even aware of the toll that it is taken on his mental faculties. Is Anchorman really a comedy movie about newscasters? Or is it a tragedy about the consequences of time travel? Is the 'anchor' of the title referring to Brick's search for something to tie him down to one particular time period? As the saying goes, 'nope'.
