7 Reasons Batman V Superman Should Still Leave You Optimistic For The DC Universe
5. They (Kind Of) Listen To The Fans
612418One of the major bugbears with Man of Steel was the destruction caused by Superman and Zod flying through Metropolis. There is zero need to rehash this as it is a topic that has been flogged well past the point of death. It was problematic, and the collective hissy fit the internet had was probably launched with good reason.
What is noticeable from this flick, though, is that the fan criticisms were taken onboard by the writers. In fact, the criticisms raised by that battle formulate the entire introduction of the movie - which is also probably the best sequence in the whole flick, and gives Batman his entire motivation for the film. Throughout the rest of the film, we get a lot of references (some well written, others incredibly ham-fisted) to these issues in a way that shows the writers were listening and could take things on board.
The backlash to the problems in Batman V Superman has been incredibly loud and explicit. There is no way DC and Warners could ever pretend not to hear it, and if they want to keep their project alive, they will need to acknowledge the perspective of the punters.
Given the fact they have demonstrated they are willing to listen to criticisms in the past, and given the fact they have so much invested in this universe, fans can be forgiven for thinking that they might continue to take on board the biggest problems fans have with their films and tweak them.
Of course, this could all be a pipe dream…but we're looking for reasons to be optimistic, remember?
