7 Reasons Deadpool Has The Edge Over X-Men: Apocalypse

3. The Bad Guys Are Certified Fresh

Let€™s take a trip down memory lane and list the primary antagonist from the X-Men film catalogue. In chronological order, we have Magneto, Stryker, Magneto, 20th Century Fox, Sebastian Shaw, a samurai Transformer and Magneto. Hands up who looked at that list and said, €˜I think we need more Magneto€™? This isn€™t intended to slam the great Ian McKellen or Michael Fassbender€™s portrayal as the master of magnetism because they are awesome actors who do justice to a great character. It€™s merely meant to shine a light on the lack of fresh faces among the criminal elite in the X-Men films. Despite the comic books containing a treasure trove of villains, the vast majority of the films have fallen back on using Magneto as a threat. It could be worse but he€™s not the only worthy adversary of the X-Men. In Age Of Apocalypse, we€™ve finally got a new, imposing threat in the form of an Ivan Ooze cos-player, The Immortal En Sabah Nur (the titular Apocalypse). But Deadpool also contains innovative, less purple villains. Ed Skrein€™s Ajax is a character dulled to both pain and emotion, like Kirsten Stewart, due to having all of his nerve endings removed. In order to do the role justice, Skrein had to do some light reading and delve into serial killer lore, studying the mannerisms and aura of the more deranged members of history. Then there€™s Gina Corano as Angel Dust. All you need to know about that character is that she€™s being played by Corano, a woman who has the chops to break your heart and your face with equal force. Corano proved she has acting ability and, coupled with her innate talent for hurting people, is very entertaining. Her standout role was in the entertaining, butt-kicking Haywire, which also featured Michael Fassbender. It will be a treat to see what she can do when toe-to-toe with a guy that can heal just as quick as he can talk.
