7 Reasons Hell Or High Water Is The Best Film Of 2016 (So Far)

3. ...As Does Chris Pine

Hell Or High Water

Tanner is younger brother Toby. The more sensible of the two, Toby is the brains who goes against his honest nature to put his criminal master-plan into action. Disguising his leading man good looks under a mop of dishevelled hair and tatty stubble, his piercing eyes provide a window to the fear and pain beneath this particular cowboy.

Chris Pine has proven with Captain Kirk that he can play the arrogant, lovable hero with ease but can he play the quieter, sullen hero? Yes he can, since you asked. He can do it very well in fact.

Compared to the more cocksure nature of his older brother, Toby's role is mostly unspoken. Pine is required to tell us a whole lot through wistful glances and squint-eyed stares and he pulls it off with ease.

Another strong leading man performance as well as solid proof that he is more than 'the Kirk act', Hello or High Water is certainly a career high point for Chris Pine.
