5. Koepp's Hits/Misses

Prior to the announcement that Kasdan was coming onboard, screenwriter David Koepp had been working on a script for a fifth Indiana Jones film for the past couple of years.

And though initially, Collider's sources weren't quite clear on if Kasdan would simply be retooling or not, the film's production has since been pushed back a year to give Kasdan time to write his own script. So, Koepp's script, or at least the majority of it, will not be making the cut. And that's actually a good thing.

Koepp is a legend. He's written scripts for films such as Spielberg's Jurassic Park, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, and even Brian De Palma's Carlito's Way. He was a go-to writer for big-budget, auteur-driven filmmaking in the nineties and early 2000s. But since then, his output has been less than glowing. In the last ten years, his credits include Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Inferno, and being one of the head-writers involved with Universal's Dark universe fiasco, including being the primary screenwriter on 2017's The Mummy.

If anything, this news should be met with a sigh of relief. Koepp is a wonderful writer but his recent work shows a complete and total lack of the flair and finesse he had once mastered.
