7 Shark Films The Meg Will Blow Out Of The Water
2. Ghost Shark
Ghost Shark genuinely could have been excellent B-movie fodder. The set-up was genius; if the only way to end a water-based thriller is to have the beast be killed, why not have the shark seen off in the opening moments by a shark hunter? Then, have the shark makes it's way into a supernatural underwater cave that allows it to become a vengeful supernatural vigilante that can appear in any volume of water, including directly inside a person, a cup, or at the end of a slip and slide?
The plot's as nonsensical as it could possibly be, and the shark's flailing victims couldn't be any less poorly acted if they tried, but Ghost Shark tries to at least create some tension and intrigue in the slasher-style action common in killer shark movies. However, an overreliance on bombast and blood spatters tips the scale the other way.
This results in a horror film that tries way too hard, removing all tension and feeling plain dull. Coupled with special effects that wouldn't even make the cutting room floor in most editing suites, Ghost Shark doesn't really deliver in any way apart from its dumb, creative deaths.
