8 Comic Book Film Adaptations You Didn't Know Were In Development

4. Terra Formars

Japanese director Takashi Miike has no fewer than 99 directing credits to his name. Wow. Just wow. Whilst in the west he's most recognised for his cult classics horror Ichi The Killer and Audition, he's actually directed movies from all kinds of genres, which his latest endeavour, Terra Formers, being in the realm of sci-fi. The original manga series, written by YĆ« Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana, saw scientists attempt to Terraform Mars to make it hospitable for humans. When people eventually visit the planet 500 years later, however, they find that the attempt was a disaster as it resulted in the planet being overrun with giant, hostile creatures. So naturally, they send in the military to wipe them out. Comparisons to Starship Troopers are inevitable. From what's been seen of Miike's film so far, the top notch production values give it the look an feel of a major Hollywood picture. It opens in Japan in April, and, if it does well, an international release could follow.
