7 Star Wars Fan Theories We Wish Were True

5. Enfys Nest Descends From The Nihil

Nihil Enfys Nest
Lucasfilm / Del Rey

While this depressingly isn't the space to devote an entire entry to just how unexpectedly fun and underrated Solo: A Star Wars story is (bite me), it does give me the opportunity to hype up one of the spin-off's biggest characters - Enfys Nest.

Portrayed by Erin Kellyman, Enfys led a group of marauders known as the Cloud-Riders, and were positioned as the film's initial antagonists before the big reveal that they were actually victims of Crimson Dawn, the organisation run by Maul.

Nest and the Cloud-Riders' designs were almost medieval in look, with many utilising a mix of blasters and melee weapons in combat. When Lucasfilm announced The High Republic and showed off the series' villains, the Nihil - a band of marauding pirates who terrorised the galaxy with similar looking outfits and weapons - fans made the connection that the two could be linked.

Now obviously the Cloud-Riders are a heck of a lot more noble than the Nihil were, but a lot can change over the course of 200 years and there's every chance those who were born into the Nihil were able to reform the group. There could also be the possibility that a group splintered off after witnessing one atrocity too many, thus forming the Cloud-Riders, and vowing only to take up arms against those who would seek to repeat the Nihil's unique brand of barbarism.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
