7 Things James Gunn Has To Fix In Suicide Squad 2
2. Add Dave Bautista
Speaking of Bane, the former wrestler would be immaculate casting for the iconic character.
More than his skills as a performer and action star though, scoring Bautista would be one in the eye for Disney. And who could blame Gunn for wanting to get some points on the board? His unceremonious sacking for decade old jokes he’d already taken personal responsibility for rubbed many the wrong way.
What was perhaps most surprising is how much Bautista (who plays Drax in Guardians Of The Galaxy) came out swinging. The entire cast co-signed a statement about their disappointment, with a lot of Marvel stars adding their voice to the chorus. As is so often the case in these ‘fake-woke’ times though, most popped up with a single, inoffensive message then burrowed back down into the safety of neutrality.
Bautista was not one of those. In his tweets and interviews, he moved beyond praising Gunn and began attacking Disney. Speaking with quiet, surprising eloquence, Bautista openly discussed cutting ties with the House of Mouse, so upset was he by their treatment of Gunn. After all, this was the director who gave him his big break. The chances look good that he’ll follow Gunn to DC.
