7 Things New To Netflix This Week (Mar 28)
4. Poltergeist 2
You want more 80s? It's your lucky week.
Set one year after the first film, archaeologists find an underground cave beneath The Freeling family's former home, leading to the discovery of a creepy dead preacher poltergeist thing.
The movie was more realistic than you might think - Human skeletons were used on set and a proper Sharman was used to perform the exorcism, fuelling speculation of a real-life Poltergeist Curse. You could brush it away as mere coincidence given the sheer number of people who star in movies, but Dominique Dunne was murdered after the first film, Julian Beck died after shooting the second and Heather O'Rourke became a member of the deceased shortly before the third film wrapped. Spooky.
Officially titled Poltergeist II: The Other Side, Brian Gibson's film wouldn't be as commercially successful as the original, but it would earn an Academy Award nomination for Visual Effects.
Poltergeist II returns to Netflix on April 1st.
