5. Johnny Depp's Role Is Being Downplayed - Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
The two trailers released for the fifth Pirates movie to date have shown Johnny Depp's beloved Jack Sparrow for a grand total of 3 seconds.
This is likely an attempt by Disney to distance themselves from the recent negative publicity surrounding Depp, namely a domestic abuse scandal, as well as the perception that audiences may have grown tired of his shenanigans, as his mugging couldn't save the recent Alice Through the Looking Glass from being a box office dud.
Considering that this film started shooting two years ago, it's safe to say it went through production with Jack Sparrow having a huge role as usual, but right now Disney are attempting to downplay it while emphasising Javier Bardem's villain, new heroes played by Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario, and a returning Orlando Bloom.
It's probably a smart move from a financial perspective to stop using Depp as a crutch right now as his popularity has foundered, but it's also likely a patent misrepresentation of what the film actually is.
