But say Marvel and Sony don't care about setting up an intricate lore. What if, like quite a lot of comic book events, they just want the instant gratification of seeing Spider-Man and Venom on the big screen, but within the context of a wider team-up?
It's only a matter of time before the X-Men, Fantastic Four and the rest of Fox's properties head to the MCU, and while it's likely that Disney will look to introduce those characters gradually over time, there is a possibility that another Infinity War-style event comes along, that mashes together various realities in one gigantic crossover.
If Venom isn't set in the MCU, and there's no possibility of it joining at all, a Spider-Verse-style event where Marvel and Sony cross universes could definitely work. It's an unlikely scenario, and most definitely the least preferred option for fans, but if all other options have been exhausted then it's not inconceivable.
