8 ‘80s Movies That Would Secretly Make Great TV Shows

7. Poltergeist

Although recently remade for the big screen to mediocre effect, Poltergeist feels perfect for TV right now, with the recent success of Stranger Things and The Haunting of Hill House proving that there is an appetite for creepy episodic storytelling, very much in the tone of '80s horror.

It would also act as a more family -friendly horror series; an antidote to the more intense American Horror Story, Scream, and The Walking Dead shows. In other words, Poltergeist could strike the balance of being scary but fun and not too risky.

Even though there might not be too much staying power in just focusing on the original story, the showrunners could take a page out of Fargo, True Detective, and the aforementioned American Horror Story's book and focus on one story or family per series. By doing so, they could capitalize on a different location's quirks and culture to keep each season feeling fresh and unique.
