8 Actors Desperate To Hide The Truth In Movies

4. Gert Fröbe's Poor Grasp Of English - Goldfinger

Goldfinger's titular villain is perhaps the series' most iconic and beloved, played quite brilliantly by German actor Gert Fröbe.

However, Fröbe couldn't speak much English at the time of shooting, and so the decision was made to have the actor speak his lines phonetically on-set before they were re-dubbed in post-production by English actor Michael Collins.

While dubbing often draws attention to itself, this is a remarkable case of an especially brilliant dub, given that the overwhelming majority of viewers had no clue whatsoever that Fröbe wasn't delivering his own vocal performance.

Though it's not unheard of for filmmakers to re-dub actors' voices after being dissatisfied with their work during shooting, at least in Fröbe's case it was no surprise to him - this was agreed upon before shooting started, and he was always part of the process.

Plus, Fröbe ended up dubbing himself for the German version of Goldfinger, ensuring he did ultimately get to give a "full" performance as the character.
