Here's something you've probably never stopped to consider - why did the late Natalie Wood almost always wear something on her left wrist while shooting movies?

As it turns out, a 9-year-old Wood suffered a serious wrist injury while shooting the 1948 drama The Green Promise, when a collapsing bridge stunt went wrong and she ended up breaking her wrist.

Furthermore, the bone wasn't set correctly - allegedly due to Wood's mother not wanting her to visit a doctor for fear of her losing the role - resulting in it healing in a way which caused the bone to protrude from her wrist.

And so, for the rest of her tragically curtailed life and career, Wood wore bracelets and gloves to cover her wrist on film shoots, with one of the few notable exceptions being the iconic bathtub scene from 1961's Splendor in the Grass.

Otherwise, go back through Wood's filmography and you'll see her left wrist regularly covered due to her apparent self-consciousness over the childhood injury.
