8 Actors Who Hated Working On Batman Movies

3. Val Kilmer - Batman Forever

Playing the titular hero in a Batman feature isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes the weight of the cowl can be too much for an actor both figuratively and literally.

Yet, besides from absolutely despising the incredibly uncomfortable Batsuit (are you sensing a theme here?) Val Kilmer had another reason for eventually falling out of love with the character of Bruce Wayne/Batman whilst working on Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever.

After filming had concluded one day whilst shooting the flick, Kilmer was informed that billionaire businessman Warren Buffet would be stopping by the set with his grandkids. So, the actor decided to fight the desire to de-cowl for a while longer in order to give the children the chance to meet their favourite hero.

Only, when the kids turned up to the set, they were more interested in playing with the Batmobile and trying on the Dark Knight's masks than meeting the dude actually playing Batman.

It was in this moment that Kilmer realised something very important that would seemingly effect the rest of his time in the role:

"Batman isn’t meant to be a real guy. Batman is meant to be so anonymous that the person who is looking at him can see himself in him."

He then added:

“That’s why it’s so easy to have five or six Batmans. It’s not about Batman. There is no Batman.”

This depressing epiphany led to Kilmer refusing to reprise the role for the disastrous Batman & Robin and makes any chance of him returning in the aforementioned DCEU Flash movie, featuring multiple Batmans, highly unlikely.
