8 Actors Who Seriously Injured Themselves For Movies
5. Quentin Tarantino Strangled Diane Kruger To Make Inglourious Basterds Feel Real
If you had to choose, who would you deem the better actor to sell an intense murder scene: Christoph Waltz or Quentin Tarantino? Thats Oscar-winning actor Christoph Waltz versus Quentin Tarantino, a director who occasionally has a punt at acting. Need a little time to decide? Tarantino didn't.
Unhappy with the quality of faked strangulation scenes, he conferred with Diane Kruger and they decided that the best way to give Bridget von Hammersmark a truly devastating death scene was for Diane to be strangled for real. However, he was unsure that (well-respected, award-winning actor) Waltz could truly sell choking the life out of his co-star - there was the chance he just wouldnt give it enough oomph. Always ready to help out, Quentin stepped up to the plate, wrapped his hands around Krugers neck and squeezed. And squeezed. And squeezed.
Which, as anyone whos au fait with human biology know, has a tendency to lead to unconsciousness and eventual death. Thankfully, Tarantino stopped - just before Diane passed out. Though, lets face it, if theres one director you can imagine convincing himself he needed to see an actor actually die on screen, its Q.T. Kruger seemed to have a fair sense of humour about the whole thing, too, happily relating the story of her attempted murder at the hands of her boss in many an interview.
