3. Nicole Kidman (Destroyer)

Nicole Kidman is one of Hollywood's most glamourous and beautiful actresses, making it all the more startling that she's roughed herself up considerably for Karyn Kusama's new crime thriller Destroyer.

Playing traumatised LAPD detective Erin Bell, Kidman has ditched her signature blonde curls for a short brown wig, complete with tatty clothing and an incredibly weathered face which is said to be a result of Bell's sleep deprivation, stress and sun damage after spending years undercover in a cult.

As director Kusama put it, she has "a past that she wears on her face." Kidman has been earning rave reviews for her performance so far, so don't be surprised if she ends up scoring a Best Actress Oscar nod off the back of her effort here. After all, the Academy loves little more than beautiful people uglying themselves up.
