As barmy as it may be to believe, arguably one of the most terrifying minds ever to pen material that would later go on to be used for cinematic scares once demanded that a certain horror flick be turned off due to it being "too freaky". Too freaky for the King? Now there's an honour.

The legendary writer and sometimes on-screen performer recalled when talking on Eli Roth's History of Horror TV series that he first stumbled upon a little film by the name of The Blair Witch Project whilst lying in a hospital bed many years ago. As Stephen King would confess:

"My son brought a VHS tape of it and he said, ‘You gotta watch this’. Halfway through it I said, ‘Turn it off it’s too freaky’."

Though he wasn't actually present in a cinema at the time, King's refusal to sit through the creepy found footage delight is about as close to a hospital walk out as you can realistically get. Yet, as the years would go by, he would later admit that the "freaky" film has become one of his favourites, even claiming it to be an inspiration for some of his more recent work.
