One director who seemed to simply revel in discombobulating and completely unsettling an audience was none other than the late Stanley Kubrick. And perhaps one of the most memorable instances of folks just not knowing what to do with themselves during the witnessing of one of his cinematic masterpieces came in the form of the mass walk-out that went down during 2001: A Space Odyssey's premiere way back when.

Among the 241 people to exit the theatre part way through the sci-fi 1968 eventual-classic was Rock Hudson, star of Magnificent Obsession and Giant. The well-known movie sensation of the 1950s and '60s would go on record to ask, "Will someone tell me what the hell this is about?"

Ultimately, whether Hudson had a clue what was going or not didn't really matter, A Space Odyssey would go on to be classed as arguably Kubrick's finest ever feature, ranking at the top of many a list when unpacking the rest of his monumental works which include the likes of The Shining and A Clockwork Orange.

It's safe to say those 241 deserters wouldn't feel the same way, though...
