Outside of Germany, few people caught Sherry Hormann's 2013 drama 3096 Days on the big screen when it was initially released. Based on the real-life story of a 10-year-old, by the name of Natascha Kampusch, being abducted and held captive for eight years, Antonia Campbell-Hughes took on the unenviable task of bringing Kampusch to life in the movie.

To ensure she could understand the hell Kampusch must've been going through and portray it truthfully, the actor claimed that she understood she would have to "suffer as much as she did." This process involved Campbell-Hughes having parts of her head shaved and drastically losing weight by replicating the way Kampusch ate during the ordeal. If that wasn't enough, the actor also suffered numerous cuts and bruises, along with a broken toe, fracture rib, and torn Achilles tendon whilst shooting the difficult movie.

It's clear Campbell-Hughes was absolutely focused on doing Kampusch's story justice throughout the making of this disturbing true story feature, so it's just a shame that so few people outside of Germany witnessed the fruits of her relentless labour.
