8 Actors Who Were Sued For Quitting Movies

5. Woody Harrelson – Benny & Joon

Old Dogs John Travolta
Paramount Vantage

Woody Harrelson is an actor who's beloved for his laid-back on-screen attitude. Everything he does has an aura of calmness and likability to it, even when he's playing on the darker side. Thus, it comes as quite a surprise that he caused such a stir by leaving Benny & Joon, but once you hear the alternate offer he received, you won't be too surprised that he did.

Benny & Joon is a romantic comedy from 1993 which saw a young mentally ill girl fall for a peculiar man obsessed with Buster Keaton. Harrelson was offered a leading role in the film and agreed, but left after being offered a part in Indecent Proposal. Although Benny & Joon is a decent experience, it's safe to say that he backed the right horse as Indecent Proposal is still considered one of his best performances.

Sadly, this choice led to MGM suing both Harrelson and Paramount, which settled out of court. Whatever the settlement offer was, it certainly didn't do too much damage to Harrelson's career.
