There are very few people who can walk off a film set and still end up playing a significant role in the final product, but that's what happened to Mario Lanza in this classic movie musical.

Lanza's distinct singing voice was a huge presence in the 1950s, so losing him from the film caused MGM some aggravation, but they settled on a decent proposal.

After recording all of his songs for The Student Prince, Lanza ended up walking after a temperamental showdown with the producers. He left without filming his character Prince Karl's scenes, leaving the production in a bind. Thus, MGM perused legal action to make up for their loss of the star.

In the end, Lanza managed to get out legal hot waters by allowing MGM to keep the vocals he had recorded, which they used to dub the newly cast Edmund Purdom, who took over the acting duties for Prince Karl.

Talk about getting out with your head raised high; the man managed to escape losing millions thanks to his iconic voice.
