8 Actors Who Were Sued For Quitting Movies
4. Marlon Brando - The Egyptian
The infamy of Marlon Brando's backstage antics in the latter stages of his career are often remembered just as much as his brilliant performances. But, this one actually comes from the earlier stages of his resume, only a few years after he became a star for his breakout performance in A Streetcar Named Desire.
Brando was scheduled to take on the leading role in this movie, but prior to filming 20th Century Fox were informed by Brando's psychiatrist that he was too ill to take part. Rather than letting that rest, Fox decided to sue the actor and ended up winning, causing him to go out of pocket to pay them back and forcing him to appear in another of their flicks, Desiree.
Leaving a movie due to health concerns must have been a difficult situation to handle, but no one expects to get sued for skipping work due to being sick.
In an interesting turn of events, the part ended up going to Edmund Purdom, who appears to be the king of scoring the roles these stars quit.
