8 Actors Whose Careers Flopped After Leaving The MCU

1. James Spader

Ultron Avengers
Marvel Studios

Another Age Of Ultron casualty, it's not clear exactly why the great James Spader has done basically nothing over the last couple of years, but a scroll down his IMDB page displays a definite turning point: his role as Ultron in the MCU.

One of the more divisive villains in Marvel's cinematic universe, Ultron received criticism for his overly-quippy disposition (a trait that was hard to swallow, considering the marketing painted him as a gravely serious foe), while being praised for his awesome design and Spader's top-notch vocal performance.

And though the film wasn't received as warmly as the first Avengers, it was still a critical and commercial success, and if anything, it should have helped the actors involved.

But Age Of Ultron is Spader's last big screen credit. Since the early '80s, he's more or less appeared in one film per year (including classics like Wall Street and Pretty In Pink), so for him to suddenly go quiet is extremely odd.

Still, he continues to work on The Blacklist (his hugely successful TV show), but given how well the man commanded the screen as Ultron, it's strange that he hasn't wanted to take on - or hasn't been offered - more high-profile work.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
