8 Annoying Comic Book Movie Trends That Must Die In 2017
6. Everybody Survives
Read though the cast list for the upcoming Avengers movie and there's an actual chance that you'll die of old age before you get to the end.
That's to say, it's long. And though the long-awaited picture is sure to fulfil about forty-seven comic book nerd fantasies all at once, the reason that the cast list is so lengthy stems from the fact that Marvel haven't got the balls to kill off any of their characters. Everyone seems to survive everything.
Take Captain America: Civil War. How much added weight could this movie have had if, say, War Machine had actually died during the airport battle? He wasn't a particularly important character, after all, but he was a beloved one, which essentially renders him as the perfect candidate for an unexpected - and heartbreaking - death scene. To, you know, add fuel to the fire.
Basically we've reached a point now where the studios are too afraid to off any of the main characters (Quicksilver doesn't count because we didn't like Quicksilver or care about him, so where's the risk?) The fact that Wolverine actually met his end during the climax of Logan is a miracle, but it still took sixteen years.
We are approaching a point now where we need to feel like there are consequences, repercussions, and ramifications. These heroes need to lose something in order for us to want to continue on the journey with them.
