8 Most Anticipated Non-Sequel Films Of 2014

7. Noah

It will have been three and a half years since we last saw a Darren Aranofsky helmed film. Post Black Swan the director was on course to bring 2013's Wolverine to the screen, however personal circumstances prevented him from completing what would have undoubtedly been the most bizarre superhero film to date. Aranofsky instead developed what is certainly his biggest film in scale, a retelling of the story of Noah and his very large boat. Russell Crowe will play the biblical figure who attempts to round up two of every animal to appease a pretty vexed God. It's a lot to take on, with producers even admitting they had to stretch the narrative as Noah's story is quite small within the Bible. If nothing else this is an intriguing pursuit from a director who has delivered some of the most mind bending releases in the last decade. We can only hope his eye for a compelling story is not outmatched by Hollywood's eye for 'by the numbers' (two by two in this case).

As a pretty nerdy guy, I've loved film and television since I was a wee lad. Growing up in Ireland, The Den was the show to watch with it playing Batman The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and everything in between. I have an MA in Radio and Television Production and have written for various sites, hope you enjoy my articles/lists for What Culture!
