Its not easy to forget Roland Emmerichs over bloated excuse of a Godzilla film. It really isnt. Thats one of many big challenges facing director Gareth Edwards sophomore effort. After the success of independent feature Monsters, Edwards was given the challenge of reinvigorating a franchise once lost in the blockbuster shuffle. A second helping of the Japanese Kaiju is something an unsuspecting audience may be wary of considering the last Matthew Broderick starring effort was less than enthralling. This, however, has all the right ingredients to be a success; A talented director looking to make an impression, a stellar ensemble cast including the likes of Bryan Cranston and indie darling Elizabeth Olsen, and no Puff Daddy looking to destroy a legendary rock song in sight. This may just be the film the iconic movie monster deserves.
As a pretty nerdy guy, I've loved film and television since I was a wee lad. Growing up in Ireland, The Den was the show to watch with it playing Batman The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and everything in between. I have an MA in Radio and Television Production and have written for various sites, hope you enjoy my articles/lists for What Culture!
