8 Most Anticipated Non-Sequel Films Of 2014

1. Transcendence

This will mark the first time Christopher Nolan's cinematographer Wally Pfister will direct his own feature. With a hugely successful collaboration under his belt, Pfister clearly felt he'd learned enough from one of the greats to try his own luck in the chair. Taking a leaf out of Nolan's book, Pfister has gone the route of science fiction with his debut Transcendence. Telling the story of a scientist shot and ultimately killed by anti-technology extremists, his consciousness is placed inside a computer with most probably disastrous results. While not exactly the most original concept, there is enough quality throughout the film to make us excited. With Pfister's keen eye for visuals, a producing credit for Nolan himself and a cast any Hollywood blockbuster would be jealous of; this may have all the ingredients to be the sleeper hit of the year. It will also be nice to see Johnny Depp sans wacky make-up.....at least in the films first act.

As a pretty nerdy guy, I've loved film and television since I was a wee lad. Growing up in Ireland, The Den was the show to watch with it playing Batman The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and everything in between. I have an MA in Radio and Television Production and have written for various sites, hope you enjoy my articles/lists for What Culture!
