2. Paradise Lost

It seems that nothing could have saved this film from being sent to hell €“ not Satan, and not even God. Based on the epic poem by John Milton, Paradise Lost tells the story of the fall of man, Adam and Eve and the fallen angel Lucifer. The film was originally going to be released in 2013, and it looked as if there was going to be some quality talent on board Alex Proyas, a credible filmmaker who brought the visually and philosophically striking Dark City was attached to direct, and the cast looked promising €“ Bradley Cooper was to play Lucifer, Casey Affleck was Gabriel and Benjamin Walker was Michael. I was so much looking forward to this film; a true actioner film of literal biblical proportions. Having Michael fighting Lucifer sounds awesome in itself, but seeing heaven and hell fully envisioned with a large budget had me sweating in anticipation. But alas, it was the budget were the cause of so much misery. The film would have needed extensive CGI work, as befitting its settings of heaven, hell and the Garden of Eden, and not to mention the angelic protagonists. The budget would have been around $100 million, but with special effects, it was more than likely that the budget would have gotten bigger and bigger. The thought of angels doing battle in 3D sounded exciting and the release of concept art and a sneaky image of Bradley Cooper as Lucifer made the film look like a gamble that could have paid off. But unfortunately, we will never know.
