8 Awesome Things You Can Accomplish While Drunk Or High (According To The Movies)
4. Impersonate A World Famous Magician The Prestige
In Chris Nolan's Victorian-set 'The Prestige', Robert Angier is a successful magician hell-bent on discovering the secrets of his rival's most successful routine 'The Transported Man'. The only solution he can come up with is Alfred Borden's use of a body double a man who the audience must believe is actually the same person. To try and mimic this, Angier goes about hiring Gerald Root, an out-of-work actor who bares a striking resemblance to the magician (both characters are played by Hugh Jackman). Angier however is wary, as Root is an alcoholic with a volatile and untrustworthy temperament. Irregardless, come show-night Root pulls it out of the bag and steps onto the stage to lap up the audiences' wonderment and admiration what those in the business call 'the prestige'. It seems that all you have to be to pass as a very good magician is a very drunk actor. At the end of the day, its all about the smoke, mirrors and no small amount of moonshine.
