8 Best Donald Glover Roles

3. Community - Troy Barnes

Donald Glover Lando Calrissian

It's weird to think that there once existed a world where Donald Glover wasn't known for his music and film roles, instead being best known for playing the pseudo-jock on the extremely meta show Community.

It shows how well-loved that both Community and Glover are as a whole, that after all of the success with other projects in a myriad of different fields, Glover is still adored from his time spent in the study group.

Troy Barnes was a brilliant air-conditioning repairman, top-notch quarterback, and the other half of the duo Troy & Abed. Glover himself had never had a role that was even close to being leading before, so it is best evidenced in the years since Community finished just how good he was as Troy.

Glover's own brand of comedy and out-and-out wackiness was on full display here, then dialled up to 11 as we see Troy's journey from high school jock, to letting his inner nerd out and becoming Abed's best friend. The way that Glover played Troy with such meta-dumbness and yet a delicate sensitivity, which Glover would go on to imbue most of his characters with, was at times both hilarious and heart-warming.

Along with that, Glover gave us Troy's reaction to meeting LeVar Burton, which was just priceless.
