8 Big Changes The Death Note Remake Made

5. The Romance

The decision to make the relationship between Light and Misa slightly more conventional isn’t an issue.

The problem is that the story largely focuses on the romance aspect in favour of the intellectual battle between L and Light (which is almost completely removed considering that Light Turner has no intelligence.) The battle of wits between L and Light is the most gripping and compelling part of the manga, and the film seriously suffers from its removal, but focusing on a dull romance instead is where the film really trips up.

We wanted a gripping thriller, but we were given a teen romance with high-pitched screams.

Amy Cornforth hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
