8 Big Questions About The Future Of DC Film Universe

6. Will The DCEU Be Scrapped If Wonder Woman Completely Fails?

Three strikes, and you're out! While Man of Steel wasn't quite the widely-beloved smash Warner Bros had surely hoped for, it did well enough to be considered a success - evidently, since the studio chose to push forward with the DCEU and director Zack Snyder.

But audience response to their movies has only worsened; the studio's very firmly on two strikes now with BvS and Suicide Squad, so can their cinematic universe withstand a third, should Wonder Woman come out to just as cold a reception?

The studio has films slated all the way up to 2020, but release dates can change and projects can be dropped - Fantastic Four 2 and X-Men Origins: Magneto were both planned over at Fox before their predecessors tanked.

Warner Bros has attempted to create a cinematic universe before too, with Green Lantern - and we all know how that turned out. The studio's no stranger to cancelling plans then, and if Wonder Woman proves a financial disappointment or a complete, utter mess, there's a strong possibility that the DCEU could be reworked - or abandoned - entirely.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
