8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In 2016's Superhero Movies

6. Tilda Swinton As The Ancient One

Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange may feel like something of a safe choice on the part of Marvel, especially as fans were suggesting him for the role long before the studio even announced the movie. However, there's no denying that the talented British actor is perfect for the role of the Sorcerer Supreme, and he's been surrounded by a cast which is equally impressive, including Tilda Swinton. The problem with choosing her to play The Ancient One is the fact that there's a very good chance that she'll outshine Cumberbatch in what will be some of his most pivotal moments in the movie as he sets out on the path to becoming Doctor Strange. A big part of that is the actress's apparent decision to play The Ancient One as a man, and just like Swinton's other recent transformative roles in movies like Snowpiercer and Trainwreck, there's a very real risk that she'll end up stealing a little too much of the spotlight and becoming a distraction of sorts for the audience. So, while her Ancient One will no doubt be amazing, Marvel may have been wiser to cast Swinton in a different type of role which could have given her a chance to steal the show as a villain (after all, Marvel needs more iconic bad guys after a string of forgettable foes for Earth's Mightiest Heroes) rather than as a supporting character likely to make moviegoers forget about the lead!
