8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In Upcoming Movies

7. Melissa McCarthy - Ghostbusters

There's nothing inherently wrong with an all-female Ghostbusters - gender-swapping will at worst have no impact and at best could offer up a chance to look at the original movies through a new lens. There is also nothing wrong with said all-female Ghostbusters being SNL alum - that's what the original gang were, after all (I shouldn't have to say that, but it's been a major criticism).

But just because there's been many, many people rallying against the upcoming reboot for those reasons doesn't mean not being sexist or a moron means you have to like what we've got. While I don't think Ghostbusters will be as awful as that mass number of dislikes on the trailers suggests (where were all those down-voters with Batman V Superman?), I'm not really sold. And a big part of it is Melissa McCarthy.

Ever since she broke out with Bridesmaids (and, I'll be honest, I wasn't won over by that), everything she's done has been coasting on that same "I'm fat but funny" gag, especially her work with Paul Feig, where she faffs along without really committing to the work. That's very important, as it's Feig behind the reboot and, while this is part of an existing franchise, the style of the film (both tonally and in terms of acting approach) shown in the trailers definitely appears to be in the vein of The Heat and Spy; comedies with some action, rather than the other way round.
