8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In Upcoming Movies
2. J.K. Simmons As Commissioner Gordon - Justice League
Y'know what? This isn't a mistake. Well, it is, otherwise it wouldn't be on this list, but - for DC - casting J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon in the Justice League (with more movies to come) is a real coup and I have no doubt he'll be incredible, doing something similar to Jeremy Irons with Alfred and delivering a great take on the character completely distinct from what Gary Oldman (and, to be fair to him, Pat Hingle) did.
However, in doing so that pretty much nixes the chances of Simmons playing J. Jonah Jameson in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. We don't know if either company has a non-competitive clause in its contracts, but you can imagine neither Marvel nor DC want to share a big name actor with their rivals and that an actor probably wouldn't want to deal with the weight of two franchises either.
Sure, Simmons getting cast as the Daily Bugle editor was already something of an outside chance seeing as the Maguire films for which he defined the character are in a different continuity to the MCU, but, given just how on point that performance was, most fans would have overlooked that to have him screaming at Tom Holland to get more pictures of Spider-Man.
