5. AMC Branching Into Comedy With Several New Series
It hadn't occured to me that the majority of shows on AMC were dramas. Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead are all AMC staples, earning the network piles of Emmys along the way. Sure, they've got Kevin Smith's show Comic Book Men, but that's more reality show than comedy, and AMC has greenlit several comedy pilots in the hopes of adding some scripted comedies to their lineup. The first show comes from John Leguizamo, and centers around a group of men in Queens, the Bronx, and upper Manhattan, who wrestle with careers, relationships, family, ambition, and growing older. It will reportedly be similar to Leguizamo's one-man-show comedy specials, and will take inspiration from his own life. Next on the docket is from The Daily Show correspondent Wyatt Cenac, called No Money Down. The series will follow a man who hits rock bottom and begins working at an Austin car dealership, alongside a variety of personalities. And finally, a show from Andrea Abbate, based on her play called Random Acts. It follows Katie and Lisa, single girls in their early 30's, dealing with relationships, family, and growing up. Oh, and they're also contract killers in Echo Park, dealing with drug lords, corrupt cops, and unpaid debts. Weren't expecting
that, were you? That one sounds a bit more up AMC's alley than the other two shows, and should be twisted fun. Source:
