8 Biggest Omissions From The Oscar Nominations 2014

6. Emma Thompson - Best Actress, 'Saving Mr.Banks.'

After realising her surprising nomination for 'August: Osage County' had denied Emma Thompson a place on the Best Actress list, Meryl Streep wrote her a long, guilty email effectively apologising for being nominated for an 18th Oscar. Surely if a rival actress in the category is shocked into that kind of reaction then missing out Emma Thompson is a big mistake. It is fair to say that she was never a front runner as the early money fell towards Cate Blanchet but her place amongst the contenders was always assumed because she had given such a searing performance in 'Saving Mr.Banks.' By watching the end credits of the film there is an opportunity hear part of a recording of the real Travers meeting with writer Don DaGradi and songwriters the Sherman brothers. This highlights how practically perfect Emma Thompson's performance was as the voice and tone of the real Travers and the fictional version of her sounded interchangeable.

I have one golden rule: There is no such thing as a guilty pleasure. Any song or film that makes you feel good doesn't need justifying.
