8 Biggest Omissions From The Oscar Nominations 2014

5. Saving Mr.Banks - Best Film

Historical? Check. Feel-good? Check. Focus on a cinematic golden age? Check. So how did the tale of Walt Disney's efforts to get the permission of author P.L.Travers to adapt her Mary Poppins books, fail to gain any attention from the Academy? With Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson both being overlooked in the lead roles it seems even more perplexing. 'Saving Mr.Banks' didn't suffer a total shutout however as it received a nomination for Original Score but this hardly seems enough for a film of such warmth. Take the 'Let's Go Fly A Kite' scene for example, it alone was charming enough to warrant recognition but add Hanks' superbly avuncular Walt Disney and Thompson's firm Travers and this becomes a huge oversight by the Academy.

I have one golden rule: There is no such thing as a guilty pleasure. Any song or film that makes you feel good doesn't need justifying.
